Before you go

Getting to Shahdag

High in the Qusar district, yet under three hours from the capital. Here's how to arrive and what to expect.

Before you go

From Baku to the snow

  1. 1

    Fly into Baku

Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) is the main gateway, with connections across the region and beyond.

  2. 2

    Head north

It's about 200 km along the Baku–Quba–Qusar highway — roughly a three-hour drive by car, taxi or private transfer.

  3. 3

    Up to the resort

From Qusar town it's a final 29 km, around 30–40 minutes, climbing the last switchbacks to the base at 1,435 m.

How to travel

By car / transfer

The simplest option — private transfers run 24/7 from the airport, Baku hotels and the city directly to the resort.

By bus + taxi

Regular buses link Baku to Qusar in about three hours; a short taxi covers the last stretch to the slopes.

When to come

Winter · Dec–Mar

Ski season. Cold alpine days from about −5°C to +5°C, reliable snow, and the mountain at its liveliest.

Summer · Jun–Aug

A cool 20–25°C escape from Baku's heat — green meadows, adventure sports and long mountain evenings.

Spring & autumn

Wildflowers, golden forests and quiet trails — the photographer's seasons, with far fewer crowds.

Don't forget

  • Warm layers — mountain weather changes fast, even in summer.
  • Sunglasses & sunscreen — snow and altitude amplify the sun.
  • Cash in Azerbaijani manat (AZN) for small purchases.
  • Comfortable boots for snow or trails.
